Producers of the Argentinean Blueberry Commitee (ABC) celebrate the “Blueberry Week”

Producers of the Argentinean Blueberry Commitee (ABC) celebrate the “Blueberry Week”, being October its month of higher production in our country. From October 9th thru October 15th, as part of the campaign that promotes its local consumption, blueberries will be offered in supermarkets, restaurants, schools, universities, companies and trendy places.

“Besides of promoting our production to the world, we want to provide the exported blueberry as a fresh, natural and healthy option of mass consumption to the Argentine diet”, said Federico Baya, President of ABC. And he added “That is why we look forward to including the whole value chain, though we will take action with all the parts involved”.

Within the activities to be carried out during this week, we can mention tastings in Jumbo and Carrefour supermarkets, where consumers will also find the clamshell of 125 grs at a “special” price; we will deliver ecological bags with blues to be tasted at schools, universities and companies. Blueberries will also be present at Expo Alimentarte, the fair to be held at the Konex from October 12th thru October 15th .

ABC define blueberries as a “super fruit”, due to its high concentration of antioxidants, fibers, magnesium and Vitamin C, and we want to positionate it as a healthy alternative to the consumption of snacks, breaks and desserts for the whole family.

“The blueberry is a highly nutritious fruit which provides several benefits to our health, specially improving the cognitive function, prevention of cardiovascular diseases and of the urinary tract. Furthermore, it helps reduce the bad cholesterol”, they stated.

The Argentinean blueberry is characterized mainly by its taste which distinguishes in relation to other productions of the region.

In Argentina, “Better with Blues”
“We launched the campaign “Better with Blues” with the aim of promoting the consumption of this fruit in the local market. This is the first time the Committee prepares an action like this, since 95% of the fresh production is exported”, stated the President of ABC.

The campaign is framed in the program “More fruits and vegetables”, carried out by the National Ministry of Agriculture. “To work with the support of the Ministry provides us better opportunities, since we trust all conditions are in place to launch consumption throughout the country”, indicated Bayá.

How to eat blueberries:

  • Eat lots of them at once: for a better experience, it is highly recommended to eat a handful of blueberries instead of tasting one by one. This will cause the combination of the different flavors in your mouth, with a unique taste.
  • Keep them refrigerated: It is very important to keep them refrigerated. Since they are a highly perishable product, you can then prolong their shelf life.
  • Preferably consume them fresh: In the event they mature, you can use them in different recipes, like sauces, jam, juices, etc. You can also freeze them for future consumption.
  • It is a very versatile product: They can be used both in food or sweet recipes. They can also be eaten as a snack during the day, especially to replace sweet temptations. It is a good option for the whole family, mainly for children.
  • Tips to know if they are ready for consumption: Empty the package and check if no blueberries are squashed or in bad condition. Blueberries have a blueish color and are covered by a whitish wax (called bloom), proof of its freshness and quality. Firmness, acidity and sweetness are also considered. They should be packed but not pilled (in a perforated box allowing the air to circulate).
