ABC proud of joining the Network of Companies against Child Labor

Child labor is a complex social problem that infringes the rights of childhood.

One of the goals set by our partners for this year was to collaborate, together with other organizations, in the elimination of child labor. The blueberries sector is committed to this cause, and most producers have Good Practices certifications that guarantee compliance with the regulations in force.

That’s why from the ABC we have decided to request the incorporation to the Network of Companies against Child Labor, tending to carry out actions to help the cause and to participate actively in the meetings proposed.

Fortunately, throughout the month of December, we will be formally incorporated as members of the Network, thus joining over 50 first class companies and leading chambers.

A bit of history

On December 5th, 1996, the current Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security, subscribed a “Memorandum of Understanding” with the International Labor Organization (ILO), an entity that proposes the formation of inter-sector round tables with government and non-government organs in order to join efforts to fight this complex social problem, which cannot be efficiently approached by only one sector.

In June 2007, the Network of Companies against Child Labor was founded, which was formalized through the execution of an agreement between the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security, CONAETI and presidents and directors of companies and chambers.

The National Commission for the Elimination of Child Labor (CONAETI) coordinates, evaluates and follows up the efforts for the prevention and the actual and effective elimination of child labor.
